Board and Track Provide Real-World Setting
Providing a colorful, real-world environment, the Ride Around Town Train comes with a large landscape board setting. This highly detailed melamine-coated board features lakes, bridges, pastures, and an airport runway. There's even an area to place a plastic mounting setting with a moveable crane and working winch.
Designed to link all the areas of the board are a multitude of train track pieces, ranging from straight and curved to inclined. The small wooden track pieces fit together with simple tongue-and-groove connections, allowing for easy, custom assembly. Well for the most part it is, but not 100%, especially if you plan on using Thomas Engine motorized. There are some other drawbacks as well. The track is metric and slightly narrower than true Thomas track so Thomas cars don't fit completely down into the grooves. The supplied Chinese cars that come with this set do fit better, though their quality is not even close as good as Thomas brand. The bridge in the center of photo shown is positioned too close to the "downhill" slope of track and taller cars will not fit underneath it. Because the track is slightly narrower, motorized Thomas Tank Engine, especially, tends to run off of the track and will not stay on. I removed the "rubber band" edging on the front wheels only which allowed more slippage and kept Thomas Engine on the track more reliably. I know this set is not really intended per say for Thomas otorized engine, but a Thomas brand set would work much better being...
